Style Tip: 7 Ways on how to wear blue with Ease

Is your favorite color blue? The effortlessness of wearing the color is also what can put your look in a style rut. If you own several items of clothing in this color, but they’re all varying shades (baby blue, navy blue, denim blue, washed-out blue, blue-black), you might have thought to yourself “no way will any of these look good together”. Well, it’s quite possible to match shades of blue, you just have to keep in mind a few things.

How to beat winter blues? Wear them! Cheer up with these seven ways to wear the experts’ colour of the year.

Reasons Navy Blue Is Such A Fabulous Color To Wear:

Here are just some of the things I love about blue:

It Looks Stylish Year-Round:

Blue is a universal color.  Unlike black, which can be harsh, it flatters the vast majority of skin tones. While it’s not always in stores in great quantities all year, it looks fabulous at any time of year, whether you opt for a navy party dress at Christmas, or you wear a striped navy tee during summer.

Navy Blue Goes With Every Other Color In Your Closet:

If you are having one of those I-have-nothing-to-wear moments, adding more neutrals to your closet can help you get the most out of the clothes you already have.Because it’s a classic shade, you can afford to think about navy clothes and accessories as an investment that you will keep for years.

You can wear different shades of blue together and still look chic – here’s how ..

One: YOU CAN DO BLUE ON BLUE

It’s not the 90’s anymore but don’t be afraid of pairing the same coloured outfit today. There’s just one simple rule to follow, break it up with a neutral colour (you know, your sands and greys).

Two: KEEP IT SIMPLE

You can pair a lighter shade of blue with a darker shade of blue if you keep things simple. Don’t create optical illusions with sophisticated prints – stick with block colours. A pair of dark denim jeans can look very good with a light blue blouse. Similarly, a pair of washed-out denim jeans can look good with a dark blue blouse.

Three: PLAY AROUND WITH DIFFERENT FABRICS

Making sure that each of the pieces have different textures will create more of a distinction between the two shades. For example, pairing a denim skirt with a pastel blue silk blouse.

Four: GO MONOCHROME

All blue if you’re up to it (spoiler: you are). It’s the safest color to commit to in a monochromatic fit (every guy looks good wearing it) and makes matching hues a breeze.

Five: BRIGHTEN YOUR FACE

If you have blue eyes, this bright, almost electric blue will make your eyes pop (so to speak). This twisted waist dress is feminine and pretty no matter what your coloring,  but wearing this blue when you have blue eyes, will make you look like a knockout.

Six: STAND OUT

Since this color is so different and bold, it is a great choice to wear for a special event like a cocktail party or if you are Mother of the Bride. Here is a gorgeous high neck ballgown in this stunning shade. It’s blue, so conservative, but the space age shade makes it take center stage. I predict this galaxy blue will be big for party wear. It’s out of this world!

Seven: ACCESSORIES

Something small like a striking blue bag or a navy strapped watch is all you might need to inject some colour into your outfit. It’s fairly easy to tote around a blue bag or strut around in a pair of blue heels when your outfit is also blue – but if blue is not an option, or if you want to tone the ensemble down a bit, stick to neutral accessories. Accessories in nudes and blacks and whites can highlight your outfit.

On That Note

If you are ever unsure on how to wear it, remember to break up the clothes with a neutral item like a grey shirt or some stone-coloured chinos. Equally, don’t be afraid to push the boundaries, if you want to wear a top that has a crazy blue pattern on or if you want to wear a navy suit with a rich purple shirt underneath, you can do it!
